Can somebody, anybody, please explain to me the method in John Sununu's madness?
Let's recap, shall we. In 2004, New Hampshire -- considered by many the sole remaining bulwark of traditional New England Republicanism - was the only "Red State" from the 2000 election to vote instead for John Kerry. In 2006, the voters of New Hampshire elected, for the first time in over one hundred and thirty years, Democrats to the majority in both houses of the state legislature. Both of the state's two incumbent Republican congressmen went down to defeat, and the incumbent Democratic governor was re-elected by a commanding margin.
Such is the political environment in which freshman Republican senator John Sununu is seeking re-election in less than two short years.
